Walking with Walker
Purpose:
To increase mobility with a balance aid.
Directions:
Hold the handgrips and move the walker forward a short distance (around 6-12 inches). Using the walker for support, take a step to the middle area of the walker. If you have a weak or injured leg, step with that leg first. Then, step forward with the other leg.
Important:
Make sure the walker is properly fit to the child’s size/height. Have the child stand with normal posture and relax their arms at their sides. Adjust the walker's hand grips to be at wrist-level. When the child rests their hands on the hand grips, their elbows should be slightly bent.
Look straight ahead when walking.
Keep the walker close for support.
Be careful around uneven surfaces, rugs, pets, and small children.
Do not rely on your walking aid to stand up or sit down; the walker will tip over. Use the armrests from a chair to help stand and sit.
