Floor to Stand Through Half Kneel
Purpose:
Helps develop functional strength, stability, and motor control.
Directions:
Start in a kneeling position with both knees on the ground
Assisting the child as needed have the child bring one foot forward, placing it flat on the ground so the knee is directly over the ankle
Encourage the child to tighten their tummy muscles (core) and place their hands on their hips, on their knee, or use a low, sturdy support (like a couch or ottoman) if necessary.
Have the child drive down through their front heel, engaging the glutes, and push up to a full standing position, bringing the back leg up to meet the front.
Reverse the movement slowly back to the kneeling position
Recommendations:
Make sure the front foot is flat to ensure a stable base
Place toys at different angles for the child to grab encouraging trunk rotation and balance
Start by allowing the child to hold onto your hands or furniture, gradually reducing support as they build strength
