Hip and Knee Extension
Supine
Purpose:
Increases and preserves the flexibility, mobility, and strength of the joints.
Directions:
Complete 10 repetitions once a day
Recommendations:
Provide gentle resistance at the start, then increase with time
Position the child lying face up on the floor or other firm surface. With assistance, begin with the right leg fully bent. Have the child drive the right leg downward against the resistance you provide. Repeat with the other leg.
Side-lying
Purpose:
Increases and preserves the flexibility, mobility, and strength of the joints.
Directions:
Complete 10 repetitions once a day
Recommendations:
Support the top leg as needed against the weight of gravity
Challenge the child by placing their hand on their hip instead of the floor
Position the child side-lying on the floor or other firm surface with their legs slightly forward. Have the child lift their top leg and move it forward and backward. Make sure the child keeps their pelvis still. Repeat on the other side with the other leg
