Prone on Wedge
Purpose:
Strengthens the child’s neck, back, and shoulders. The wedge elevates the child’s chest, making it easier to lift their head, improve postural control, and boost visual attention.
Directions:
Place a foam wedge/ firm rolled towel on the floor
Place the child on their stomach with their chest/upper torso on the wedge. Position their elbows directly under their shoulders at a 90-degree angle.
Encourage the child to lift their head and chest up, propping their weight on their elbows.
Recommendations:
Place toys, a mirror, or high-contrast items in front of them to encourage holding the position and looking up
Ensure the elbows are directly under the shoulders and not out to the sides
Start with short duration and increase amount of time as child’s neck and shoulder muscles strengthen
