Ring Sitting

Purpose:

Promotes core, trunk, and hip strength. Facilitates two-handed play and aids in developing balance and postural control.

Directions:

  • Place child seated on hard surface, allowing them to slightly lean forward on their hands for support, as their leg shape provides a wide, stable base.

Recommendations:

  • As balance increases in child, have them lift hands to decrease support while seated.

  • Encourage movement by placing toys just out of reach to encourage rotating the trunk.

  • Ensure the child is not constantly falling backwards, which indicates they may not be ready for this position independently.
