Rolling Back to Belly

Purpose:

To assist the child in rolling & encourage reciprocal movement in the legs 

Instructions: 

  1. Place child on back 

  2. Bend one leg up (see Figure 1). 

  3. Gently bring leg across body (see Figure 2).  

  4. Once the child is lying on the side, you made slowly move child back and forth until movement is followed with upper trunk (see Figures 3 and 4). Note: Go slowly to allow child to assist the movement. 

Desired Response:  

The child will follow with upper trunk and roll to stomach. 

Undesired Response: 

  • The child will become stiff. 

  • The child’s arm will hang back so child cannot come forward.
