Side Stepping Up and Down

Purpose:

Increases lateral hip stability, balance, and strength.​

Directions:  

  • Stand sideways to a step or box, place the lead foot up, and drive through that leg to stand, bringing the trailing leg up to meet it. 

  • Stand with one foot on a step and slowly lower the other foot to the lower level, ensuring the knee stays aligned and doesn't collapse inward. 

Recommendations:  

  • Lead with stronger leg 

  • Practice with support (railings, walls) to build strength and confidence
