Supine Hip Bridges
Purpose:
To strengthen the muscles that straighten the leg at the hip joint.
Directions:
Have the child lie face up with the knees bent and the feet flat on the floor. Ask the child to raise the hips, keeping the feet flat. You can help the child use the correct muscles by giving light pressure to the buttocks with your hands or fingers. In this way, you can also feel whether the child is using the correct muscles.
Important:
Do not allow the child to push backward on the floor by straightening the knees. Do not allow the child to lift the hips by arching the back.
Make it fun! Using small toy cars or figures, ask the child to “raise the bridge” (the hips) to allow the object to slide under.
